1) What is self-injury?
For this, I am borrowing the definition created by Self-Injury Support in North Cumbria.
“Self-injury generally means the more directly harmful acts such as deliberately cutting or burning yourself. There are many different ways in which people hurt themselves.
People self-harm in order to deal with their emotional distress, and in the short term it might help them. However, in the long term it can cause even more problems, and it is not a healthy coping mechanism.”
2) Do you self-injure?
Not anymore. I self-injured for 12 years, but stopped a few years ago.
3) Are you a doctor?
I am not a doctor, healthcare professional or expert of any sort. Therefore, this site should in no way replace professional treatment. The purpose behind Razor Thoughts is to create awarness and knowledge about the issue. If you DO need help, please refer to our resources page.
4) How do I contribute?
Just send your contribution to razorthoughts@gmail.com If you are an expert or a celebrity, please include a link to your website or that of your organization.
5) But—then everyone will know!
Now, I know that this is a big step to take. Heck, it took me 15 years to finally make up my mind and admitting I cut and burnt myself. Therefore, contributions to Poetry, Art and Journal can remain anonymous if you choose. Don’t worry, your email will not be given to anyone, or published in any way, shape, or form.
6) Will I get money for this?
No. ALL contributions to Razor Thoughts are free donations. This blog has a Creative Commons licence, and by summiting your work you agree to accept those license’s terms (see question 9).
Therefore, DO NOT send any material that you wish to receive payment for.
7) You mentioned an e-book, will that be for sale?
Nope. It will be a free, downloadable document.
8) When will the e-book be out?
At this point (the moment I am creating the blog), I don’t know. I hope to do have it a year from now (August 2010), and then every year, but that depends on the number of contributions we have.
9) Can I use the information on this site for other sites?
Razor Thoughts works with a Creative Commons “Attribution Non-Commercial No Derivatives” license. This means that others can download and share the site’s content as long as they mention and link back to us. However, the contents can’t be changed or used commercially.
10) I can’t write in English!
This was one of my greatest concerns. Coming from a Latin American country, I really want to make this an International blog.
If you only write in French or Spanish, please feel free to contribute anyway. I will translate your entry and publish it in its original language and in English.
Sorry, I can only do French and Spanish now (basically, because that is all I understand!), but hope to get translators for more languages in the future.
(By the way, if you can translate any other language and are willing to help, or if you have any ideas about how to solve this issue, I’m all ears! Just write to razorthoughts@gmail.com)
